Keage Incline

"Keage" originally referred to the height of the steps of a staircase. It was probably so named because the slope around here is so steep.

The "incline" was one solution when the drop in the canal was too large for ships to navigate on their own; ships were placed on carts and transported along the tracks to the Okazaki moat.

Keage Incline is too crowded with tourists during cherry blossom season. At this time of early summer, the tracks are deserted and surrounded by fresh greenery. Looking back, you can see the incline sliding into the Okazaki moat.
